Before his current professorship, McMahon held post-doctoral fellowships at the Society of Fellows in the Humanities at Columbia University, the Remarque Institute at New York University, and the Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen in Vienna. McMahon’s writings have appeared in such publications as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and The Boston Globe.
